Chestertown, Maryland on the Chester River
The harbor and wharfs of Chestertown will be filled to capacity on the weekend of October 30 - November 2, 2008.
Ships from across the mid-Atlantic make their way up the Chester River to participate eighth annual Downrigging Weekend.
The weekend will allow public opportunities to view, board and sail on the assembled fleet and to join in celebrating the
maritime heritage of the region. The Kalmar Nyckel, Pride of Baltimore, II, schooner Virginia, AJ Meerwald, Lady Maryland and more!
Driving distance of Annapolis, Baltimore, Washington, and Philadelphia.
The Chestertown Tea Party Festival commemorates the historic event with a re-enactment of the
"tea party." Colonial re-enactors are thrown overboard with the tea by the crew of the Schooner Sultana.
A parade down High Street to the Chester River follows with colonial music and dance, fife and drum performances, puppet shows,
colonial crafts demonstrations and sales, military drills, and a walking tour of the historic district.
It is the town's biggest weekend of the year as tourists cram the streets strolling among booths filled with crafts and food.
